“Unique guide in an incredible country”
I took several film students to Iceland for almost two weeks. Oli helped plan the trip, including all of the details around food, logistics, lodging– he took care of everything and was extremely generous with his time, both before and during the trip. Needless to say, we had an incredible time. Everyone should visit Iceland at least once in their lifetime. Oli is a unique guide, and a unique person. His primary goal is in squeezing the zest and authenticity out of life, out of every interaction, including his tours, and making sure that his guests get the same. He’s the real deal, and I would say we learned as much about Icelandic culture through Oli himself as we did through being there. I would add that he’s best suited as a guide to folks who are adventurous and up for anything, spontaneous. He does much of his planning during a trip day by day, dependent on the group’s mood or the weather. Our trip was most enjoyable when we were able to let go and be present. If you’re the type of person that likes to know exactly what you’re doing moment by moment, he may not be for you. At times, with twelve film students looking to me for direction, this could be frustrating, and Oli wasn’t extremely responsive to my queries for more planning and more guidance at the beginning of each day, so that the students knew what to expect, including where we’d be going and what we’d be doing. All of that said, Oli is an authentic Icelander and he will make sure you see not the tourist attractions alone, but the real Iceland. He’s safe, competent, hard-working, and knowledgeable, and all of us feel lucky to have had the opportunity to travel with him.
